Braehead Clan close out this weekend with a home battle against our main Scottish rivals the Fife Flyers. Braehead Clan ended the weekend as they began it, with two points as they defeated Fife Flyers 5-2 after another entertaining match. The contest was only seconds old as Zack Fitzgerald and Matt Nickerson dropped the gloves for a fight that got the crowd on their feet. But it was Clan that went ahead as Scott Pitt forced his effort over the line, leaving Flyers goalie Kevin Regan beaten. The visitors were back on level terms when Ned Lukacevic showed great tenacity to squeeze the puck into the crease, but a deflection took it beyond Kyle Jones. But the home side were back in front by the end of the first as Neil Trimm smashed it in at the back post and the score was 2-1. An identical move involving Lukacevic forcing his way in from the right saw Matt Reber finish in the same way as Flyers equalised. Clan kicked on as Salters fed it to Keith, who took a touch outside and blasted it into the top right hand corner of Regan's net. Then great work from Derek Roehl teed up Leigh Salters free in the middle, who blasted the loose puck home from the centre and the home team opened up a two-goal lead. Stefan Meyer added a fifth in the final minutes to ensure another victory that takes the Clan a step closer to a potential first ever league title. They could even afford to see Scott Aarssen having a late penalty shot saved by Regan in the final minute, with victory already assured.
