The Auxor Mine Route is USFS #489 and is a moderately trafficked mountain route that takes you from Lightning Creek, USFS #419 west in the Cabinet Mountains to the crest above Hope, Idaho overlooking Lake Pend Oreille. We manage to drive to the top, then Jess and the kids ride mountain bikes on the OHV trail into Hope. The scenery is stunning, but the trail is rougher than expected and it takes a toll on the riders, leading to some crashes. Thankfully we were aided by Doug and his ATV to get us out.
