Visitors who bought cashews near the world-famous Konark Sun Temple later discovered that the packets contained very little real cashew and were mostly filled with nakula dana (fake kernels). The incident has left tourists shocked and distressed. Tourists from Maharashtra, believing that good-quality cashews are available in Konark, purchased cashews at ₹600 per kg. However, after opening the packets, they found that only 40 to 50 grams were actual cashew nuts, while the rest were fake kernels. The packets were arranged in such a way that from the outside they appeared to contain genuine cashews, but the scam became clear only after opening them.
