Peter Hasse Preambulum

Peter Hasse (1585-1640) was a student of J.P. Sweelinck in Amsterdam from 1606-1609, and went on to become Organist at the Marienkirche in Lübeck. His successor there was Franz Tunder, who was in turn succeeded by Dieterich Buxtehude. Of Hasse's works for organ, only 3 short pieces remain, each titled "Preambulum." This Preambulum was recorded on the Brombaugh organ in Fairchild Chapel at Oberlin College. Its reiteration of the second phrase of the chorale "O Mensch bewein" may be coincidental, as no other part of the chorale is quoted. But the tune's origin (1539) does predate Hasse's birth, so he would surely have known of it.
