But what if I told you that you could only have as much power and authority as you were willing to submit to? When we misunderstand submission, we think it means loss--the giving up of our independence, dignity, desires, and free will. While submission is an act of yielding, true submission, the way God designed it, is the pathway to blessing, provision, and power! The truth is you only have as much authority as you’re under because all authority comes from God. God designed authority structures and submission so that we would be protected and have the power and provision needed for life. We all need power to find breakthrough, to grow, to be successful, to fulfill our purpose. That power is found in the authority structures around us, and we can only tap into it by submitting to those in authority. Submission is often difficult because our nature and our culture push us towards independence. The flip in our thinking is to realize that we were created for interdependence—living a life of mutual submission and honor with others. True maturity is not measured by how independent we are but by the positive effects of the healthy relationships we are connected in with. The secret to learning to trust the authorities in our life is that we CHOOSE to trust God—believing that if I do the right thing, He is big enough to make it all work out. To see the fullness of God’s plan unfold in your life, you must be submitted to the authorities over you. When you do that, you are ultimately submitting to God and his authority.
