Welcome to Preston Ridge for Week 2 of our Advent series, "God Came Down." Last week, we explored how God came down to reclaim His people. This week, we dive into the central, life-altering truth of the Gospel: God came down to earth to rescue us from sin. In a world that often minimizes sin to a social inconvenience or temporary problem, we risk forgetting the eternal danger Jesus saved us from. This message contrasts common—but damaging—theological ideas (like the health and wealth gospel or salvation by works) with the powerful, agonizing rescue accomplished by Christ. We look to Isaiah 53:3-6 to understand the Messiah's mission. Jesus didn't just rescue us from a distance; He stepped out of glory and entered our suffering, becoming acquainted with grief and sorrow to pay the price for our transgressions. 🙏 Sermon Highlights & Key Takeaways: The Magnitude of the Rescue: We must never forget what Jesus has truly rescued us from. Our greatest danger is not poverty, greed, or civic injustice—it is the eternal condemnation of sin. Contrasting False Gospels: We examine how false gospels—including the 'health and wealth' message and salvation by tolerance—distract us from the most deadly danger: our separation from God. The Suffering Savior (Isaiah 53): We unpack Isaiah's prophecy, seeing how Jesus bore our griefs, carried our sorrows, and was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. His rescue was painful, costly, and complete. The Reality of Sin: Sin is slavery (John 8:34), its wages are death (Romans 6:23), and it is rooted in exchanging the truth of God for a lie (Romans 1:24-25). Condemnation or Salvation? (John 3:16-19): Jesus came not to condemn, but to save! Our condemnation was already a given, and His purpose was to be the light in the darkness, offering eternal life to all who believe. 📖 Scripture References: Isaiah 53:3-6 (Primary Text) John 3:16-19 Romans 6:23 Romans 3:23 John 8:34 Romans 1:24-25 🎁 Application: Have you truly been rescued? Fight the sin in your life to your dying breath. Endure in God's grace when you fail. Sing for joy this Christmas if you have been rescued. God did not rescue us from an awkward conversation or a boring party; He rescued us from the eternal plague of sin, giving us purpose, identity, and a family in Him! #AdventSeries #GodCameDown #JesusSaves #Isaiah53 #PrestonRidge #Sermon #ChristmasMessage #GospelTruth
