It has created it's own culture within the community and frequently crosses over due to the natural openness and positive approach trickers bring. The infinite attitude of the tricking community is contagious. As a 12 year old, I created one of the first tricking teams, Loopkicks in 1999. I filmed my friends, made a website, we preformed around the Bay Area, and around the US at Sport Martial Arts Tournaments. The team curates a weeklong tricking camp / gathering with people from around the world in attendance. It's filled with workshops, seminars, challenges, battles, training, stories, love, fun and topped off with a night show. The film focuses on the art, people, places, history, craft and personal perspective of the fresh sport. My ultimate goal is to discover the progression of it's history, document the happenings in the tricking community, and spread this new phenomenon. Tricking: the Freedom of Movement is a grassroots project, made with an out of pocket budget; a passion project over the last two years. Tricking is a self expressive, enriching extreme sport / art that only requires your body. Fusing Martial Arts, Dance Elements, and Acrobatics; tricking is a culmination of the most creative human body movement; constantly challenging what is humanly possible. It takes place in a creative playground - to explore time and space, we simply jump off the ground, and express emotion and movement creatively. The tricking community is made up of some of the most open minded people I have ever met. When trickers meet, they share an honest playfulness. Tricking is even more impressive by the way it leaps over language barriers; as a silent film is universal and free of country binding characteristics. Tricking should be recognized as a new Art and Sport, as well as having the community itself create a genre within the new sport. Tricker culture is cutting edge, progressive, and open to possibilities. Now, as a freelance cinematographer and independent producer/director shooting features, documentaries, shorts, music videos, and avant garde pieces, I have come to realize the beautiful self growth and personal discovery that comes along with turning your ideas into a motion picture. Trickers have been experimenting with the camera and editing, in a unique, no holds barred way. As an early tricker, the samplers were more like creative demo or highlight reels, highly inspiring, goofy, ariel movement attempts and combos. Tricking is larger than life and deserves a theater screen to experience. The tricker's voices create a poetic string of honesty and inspiration. My goal is to help spread and share tricking to pronounce its unique identity and become a house hold known craft. It's spreading like wildfire, and it's because of all the world's trickers, pioneers, creatives, and supporters like yourself. Thank You!!
