Youtube Video Description, Tags And Keywords. Do They Make A Difference? In this video I'm giving the results to one of my YouTube experiments. This experiment was to see if the YouTube video description, tags or keywords make any difference to the search ranking of your video or add to the video's view count. I uploaded two different videos. Both had very similar long descriptive titles. The only difference in the titles was one word at the end. One video had a very descriptive description with many tags and keywords. The other video had no description what so ever and no tags at all, so therefore no keywords either. You would expect the video that had a description, keywords and tags to have been the one with the most views but this was not the case. The video that only had a title was the one that had the most views. This directly contradicts what YouTube and Google advise you to do with your videos. As they say to use a proper description of the video's content with keywords and also use the tags. As this will benefit your video and help it to gain more views and rank higher in YouTube searches and Google searches. My take from this YouTube experiment is thsi: Do YouTube video descriptions work? In my experiment it would appear that YouTube video descriptions son't make any difference, if anything they appear to be a hindrance. Do YouTube keywords work? Again in my experiment, the answer is no, it would appear that YouTube keywords don't make any difference and it would appear that YouTube keywords don't help. Do YouTube tags help your video to rank higher? Again, in my experiment, the answer would appear to be that YouTube tags don't help to rank your video. Furthermore and something that I forgot to mention in the video. If I do a YouTube search with this exact search term -- GoPro Media Mod VS GoPro Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter For Hero 8 Black External Vlogging Mic Test -- The video without the description, keywords or tags ranks higher. What's that all about? When the only other difference is a single word at the end of the video titles, a word that I didn't try in the search. Try that search for yourself, maybe the results are different but regardless. It does not change the fact that the video without the description, keywords, tags and only a video title. Was the one that drew the most views between the two. This seriously suggests to me that YouTube video descriptions, keywords and tags don't work and don't help to gain more views for your video or even help it to rank higher in YouTube searches. Not only does this all seem to go against what you are lead to believe is best practice by YouTube but it does not appear to help those who would need the most help with their videos and channel, the small YouTuber. You can see now another reason for the disparity between small and large YouTubers and YouTube channels. What do you think of these results and have you noticed anything similar? Cheers, Dave.
