#geoffthompson #inspiration #shortfilm #supportindiefilms This beautifully performed film started out as an online mentoring session. Rory Nolan had contacted me for some advice, and during our subsequent Skype talk I realised that Rory's quirky delicious nature and his molten ping-pong energy Fe were looking for form, actually, they were calling for form through me. It is not often that this happens, when you speak with someone and immediately know that you have to take their words and make them into a film a play a book an article a piece of art (whatever shape they call for) but it happened with Rory, and I am grateful for it. I literally wrote down what he was saying. I take credit only as the scribe: the film is mostly paraphrased directly from what Rory said to me during our conversation. I formed it into an arc, and we made a film. I wanted to direct this film (even though, generally, I have no aspirations to direct), more specifically I wanted to direct Rory. I knew from our conversation that I could guide him to the performance that I knew was in him. I asked my friend (Hollywood) Steve Reynolds, if he would help me, and he kindly agreed to co-direct. I contacted my friend Warner Stephens to see if he would bankroll our venture (5k, one day shoot) and he stepped up, as he always steps up and we were up and running within weeks. The shoot day itself was beatific; there was a divine prescience in the room that I will not talk about here: it was something private that occurred between me and Rory, but this familial and loving presence is what enabled us to provide the platform for what my friend Paddy Considine later said was "at times a masterclass in acting." Directed by: Stephen Reynolds and Geoff Thompson. Written by: Geoff Thompson Cast: Rory Nolan Produced by: Warner Stephen and Richard Adams.
