I posted this monologue on my channel a couple of years ago, and here is a fresh, new take on it. This is just a cut btw that I did in class. Hope you Enjoy ;) Play: Frozen Stars Playwright: David Barnes Role: Lisa You’re wrong! I’m scared. I don’t want to end up like my mother. I just see her face every day of my life and it makes me sick. I just look at her and I see my future and if I stay here she is what I will become. She hates her life, because she never had one. My mother was left with a broken heart. She married my father because she didn’t have a choice but I do and I’m getting out of here while I still can and if you can’t understand that then that’s your own damn fault but no man is gonna hold me back from what I want. Not now, not ever. You don’t know what this means to my family, chances like these don’t come along every day for a girl like me. Look at where I come from, look at my family my brother is either locked up or fighting in the streets, my mother has to clean houses for the rest of her life, and my father can’t even read. No, I am not going out like that, I’m not messing this up. And believe me I never wanted to hurt you I wouldn’t have the courage to be able to do this without the faith that you’ve put in me but I want a career and I want to be successful and I want to be able to stand on my own.
