Kanchipuram Vaikunta Perumal Temple – 1300-Year-Old Pallava Marvel Located in the heart of Kanchipuram, the Vaikunta Perumal Temple (Thiruparameswara Vinnagaram) is one of the 108 Divya Desams glorified by the Alvars. Built by the Pallava king Nandivarman II (Pallavamalla) in the 8th century CE, this temple is a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture and a living document of Pallava history. This temple is unique for its three-tiered structure, where Lord Vishnu appears in three postures – seated, reclining, and standing. The walls of the temple are adorned with historical sculptures that narrate the life, coronation, and reign of Nandivarman II, along with rare depictions of the Pallava dynasty’s lineage, battles, justice, and even Hiuen Tsang’s visit to Kanchipuram.
