New Wright StreetDeck Electroliners have entered service on route 279. These electric buses are the new allocation of the route. They are replacing ADL Enviro400s from 2011, shown later. The Enviro400s have transferred to Grays (GY) garage. They are now used on routes 66, 103, 248 and 370. Route 279 currently uses two types of Electroliners. The pre facelift Electroliners from 2023 are allocated to route 307. The 279's new batch of Electroliners have the Vision Zero design. Electroliners have also entered service on route N279. These have replaced New Routemasters. Route 279 is the 9th Arriva route to be allocated StreetDeck Electroliners. Other routes which currently use them include... Route 50 (Stockwell to Croydon, Town Centre), Route 64 (Thornton Heath Pond to New Addington), Route 250 (Brixton to West Croydon), Route 307 (Barnet Hospital to Brimsdown), Route 417 (Crystal Palace to Clapham Common), Route 612 (Wallington Grammar School to Selsdon), Route 663 (Thornton Heath Pond to Pampisford Road), And route 689 (West Croydon to Monks Orchard). Route 133* (Holborn, Red Lion Square to Streatham Station). Route 279 runs from Waltham Cross Bus Station, To Manor House Station. The route runs via Arlington Crescent, Turkey Street Station, Albany Leisure Centre, Carterhatch Lane, Enfield College, Southbury Road, Ponders End Park, Bounces Road, Monmouth Road, Edmonton Green Bus Station, Edmonton Police Station, Angel Corner, White Hart Lane Station, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, Lordship Lane, Tottenham Police Station, Tottenham Town Hall, College of North East London, Seven Sisters Station and Seven Sisters Road. Route 279 runs every 5 to 10 minutes. The route runs daily, from 5:00 AM until 1:33 AM. It is 9 miles (15 km) long. A full journey on the 279 takes 40 to 75 minutes. Route 279 is operated by Arriva London. The route runs from Enfield (E) garage. The 279 has a peak vehicle requirement of 30 double deckers. Route 279 commenced operating in April 1961. The route originally ran between Cheshunt and Smithfield. It was introduced to replace trolleybus route 679. The 279 originally used AEC Routemasters. In 1978, the route was withdrawn between Cheshunt and Waltham Cross. It was then re-extended in 1980 but got cut to Waltham Cross for a second time in 1985. Between 1987 and 1996, the 279 was extended to Upshire at nights. And in 1992, the section between Holloway and Smithfield was withdrawn. Route 279 converted to low floor operation in 1999. It was also retained by Arriva London that year. In 2004, the 279 was cut to Manor House. The route has remained unchanged since that year. In 2011, ADL Enviro400s were introduced. The 279's Electroliners feature Arriva's high spec interior.
