Transport: Getting to Smangus (斯馬庫斯) and the trailhead is not easy and requires private transport as there are no scheduled bus services. Driving takes about 3 hours from Hsinchu and 4 hours from the Taipei area. Please note that there are travel restrictions on the last 16km of the journey. Check the community website for details. Some travel companies run shuttle buses to the trail and buses with drivers can also be rented.
