How polarization is dividing India's Silicon Valley | Hint News How polarization is dividing India's Silicon Valley | Hint News How polarization is dividing India's Silicon Valley. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CEO of Biocon, has asked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led administration in Karnataka to "resolve the rising religious rift" in the southern state of 64 million people. Shah's company is situated in Bangalore, Karnataka's capital and India's thriving information-technology powerhouse. Her comments come in the aftermath of a scathing debate in the state over calls by extreme Hindu organisations to prohibit Muslim businessmen from putting up stalls at temple festivals. Nonetheless, Bangalore and Karnataka have a history of sectarianism and religious bloodshed. Mr. Modi's drive to increase the BJP's budding foothold in southern India is centered on Karnataka. The BJP has won a majority of parliamentary seats in four consecutive general elections in a state with a diverse mix of castes, linguistic groups, and faiths. For years, the BJP has pushed a hardline Hindu nationalism in the state's coastal districts and villages, where a sizable Muslim population lives. For a long time, caste allegiances dominated electoral politics in Karnataka. There have been complaints of unspent development funds, underpaid transportation employees' pay, and delayed scholarships for the needy. Hindu nationalism looks to be the government's lone card. Mr. Bommai issued an appeal the day following Ms. Shaw's remarks, urging people to "cooperate in maintaining peace and order." There has been some opposition from inside Mr. Bommai's party. At least two BJP legislators have made no apologies. Banning Muslim vendors from Hindu temple festivities is "nothing but untouchability." Subscribe and Support Hint News.
