NATO build this bridge. Secret service, military engineering and more.. Read more here! It's an important backbone of any army to be able to construct what you need to meet your logistic needs! In my country, there is a lot of water, and you might find yourself stuck on the other side of a river fast if you think of invading.. The "101 Genie battalion" in my country is able to build bridges, anywhere in the world, even in hostile conditions! Next to bridges, think of other military infrastructure, like roads, fencing, water supplies etc. My interest for this brigade and the work they do gave me the idea to make this video, i think it's a good moment to test this new camera i have, since it's close to my city. KINGFISHER * Original post link: https://x.com/ludacr0us/status/179216... SECRET SERCICE! * in 1945 the allied forces agreed with each other that in the future they should be better informed and a secret service was called into life named "Stay Behind" sometimes called Gladio, that was how a similar (and connected) organisation in Italy was called. In 1991 a government official (former minister president Lubbers) said a little bit to much about it, and misspoke himself, and the service was cancelled right after. The remains however you can still find in "Fort Altena" this is where the metal bridge segments to a "Bailey Bridge" where stored.., in secret! (since it was stored there i felt the need to add this part of the story) NATO BRIDGE aka BAILEY BRIDGE * A Bailey bridge is named after Sir Donald Coleman Bailey. Sir Donald Coleman Bailey (15 September 1901 – 5 May 1985) was an English civil engineer who invented the Bailey bridge. Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery is recorded as saying that: "without the Bailey bridge, we should not have won the war." and in 1947 he wrote: "Bailey Bridging made an immense contribution towards ending World War II" Sir Bailey was awarded with the English: Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE, 4 January 1943) Knighthood (1 January 1946) and Dutch: Knight's Cross of the Order of Orange-Nassau: Commander. (1 January 1948) So the decision to build a bridge on the location we visit today, was made by NATO., so troop movement was made possible in this area, but after the war, the country and this area also developed, and a freeway and bridge was build, not long after. A "Bailey Bridge" was a bridge commonly build by engineers from the allied forces back in those days, however, in my country, this is the one and only! The pillars where build, so that if an army would invade, a bridge could be build fast, and retreat was made possible, with manpower! you can't put cranes up in a swamp/floodplain like area like this., the metal part and the actual bridge that rested on the pillars, was transported and build on the land, and rolled over the pillars by military service members, 300 meters by hand! An amazing feature! Two pillars are placed 24 meter and 40 Cm from each other, since 1 Bailey segment is 3,05 meters, witch equals to 10 feet. 8 of these 10 feet (or 3.05 meters) segments where constructed for a total length of 24.40 meters and this times 12! for the total span of 300 meters. A great innovative way for that time, to cross these floodplains/swamp like areas with heavy vehicles like tanks etc. EXTRA * i did shoot another video recently, this was however on the device i recorded last.. 4? i think it was 4, videos with, and the quality has been a bother to me, and you, since the first recording.., and i have searched hard for solutions, and i have ordered a new Pixel 8, and that should take care of that! In addition to that, i bought a wireless mic, so the sound level of my voice is not changing anymore, and should also reduce sounds like roads in the background, and wind. With all that, i hope you have a great day, please enjoy the video. 🖖😎
