I'm learning how to use OBS (https://obsproject.com/) as a FREE Multi-Camera switching/streaming/recording system for my home studio shoots. This test video was mixed in real time using the setup. I've used proper AV hardware switchers in the past that can make this all a LOT more reliable, but cost between $2500-4000 dollars. If you want to experiment for free- here's what I used for this test: This shoot used three cameras and a Blue Yeti microphone connected through a USB hub. 1. A WebCam - Low Res, and built into an older Acer Aspire i3-350M running 4GB of RAM on Windows10 2. A DSLR - Nikon D5100 connected using it's USB cable, with DigiCamControl "Virtual Webcam" software (http://digicamcontrol.com/) running on the laptop to make it play nice. Resolution is low (640x480) Perhaps other software will let you get higher resolution? 3. A Camcorder - Canon Vixia HFM40 connected using it's HDMI cable connected to a $26 HDMI to USB adapter (think Elgato, only really cheap) (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B088...) 4. A USB Microphone - Blue Yeti, but there are so many great affordable alternatives 5. Tying it all together is a $35 4-port powered USB hub. (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07X...) OBS SETUP "OBS - SETTINGS - OUTPUT - CPU Usage" was set to "Ultrafast" for smoother video. 3 Scenes were prepared with the appropriate windows and graphics, all using the YETI microphone I used MP4 (2500 mbps) format for the recording There are plenty of videos on OBS - it's a great tool to play around with, but there WAS some trial and error getting the cameras to activate properly if they "timed out" and went to sleep. Power adapters would have made life simpler. On my wishlist is to produce better 1080p version to more clearly see the video qualities, maybe prepare an actual script and perhaps a slicker tour of the setup without so much junk on my desk. Let me know in comments if there's anything else that would help!
