Peugeot 406 - Changing Rear Backplate and Wheel bearing

How to remove the rear wheel bearing and backplates on a Peugeot 406 with the drum in the disk handbrake arrangement. The old backplates were quite rusty, although not as bad as on some 406s mainly because i put a lot of galvanising paint on them but still flakes of rust were breaking of which caused annoying sounds from the rear of the car. The bearings were also replaced as the car made rumbly aeroplane sounds. The backplates were replaced with brand new ones from the peugeot dealer, i bought new ones as used ones were impossible to find without being rotten. The peugeot part numbers for the backplates were: 421181 - left 421281 - right The cost for these was a scandalous £170 (for basically tin plates but thats peugeot dealers for you), i then got them powdercoated with red paint to preserve them further this was £25. The rear bearings from the motor factors cost £80 for the pair. At the same time i changed the rear handbrake shoes, the rear brake pads,and brake disks which cost £80, they were all apec parts. Then discovered one brake calliper was seized, i accidentally bust the other one trying to sort out the seized one by pressing the calliper when it wasn't attached which bust the piston, new refurbished callipers and brake fluid cost £110 All in all there is almost £500 of new parts at the back end of my 406, its quite a bit but it should keep it going strong for the next 10 years. In the video i show how to remove the bearings and backplate, as well as taking off the rear brakes, i didn't show putting the rear handbrake shoes on as the weather turned nasty and getting the shoe springs back in place with the rain coming down caused too many bad words to be said that i couldn't edit them all out. Nonetheless its a doable job if you remember the way the springs go back you have enough strength to pull the springs into place. As for the brake pads they go back in place the opposite way of removal, if they are getting replaced then the calliper piston must be compressed first. I did not remove the ABS sensor in this video, but if you have an ABS problem and suspect the sensor needs changed, and the bolt that holds the sensor in place is seized then removing the backplate will reveal the other side of the bolt, which can be drilled out and then tapped to allow a bigger bolt to be used with some copper grease to prevent it seizing.
