April 2017 began cool and unsettled before quickly rebounding to a drying and warming trend for the second and third weeks of the month. This led to increased fire weather concerns and even a few new record high temperatures in western Colorado. April (like March) went out like a lion with an extended cool and wet period as a series of storms moved through. This led to the return of winter in the mountains with over a foot of new snow in some areas. This pattern also brought temperatures back down below seasonal norms with sub-freezing temperatures in many valley locations! The storms did bring much needed precipitation to most of the area. Still, several sites ended the month with below normal precipitation. The outlook for May shows odds favoring generally warmer than normal conditions as well as above normal precipitation, especially near the Four Corners region. --------------------------------- National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Grand Junction, CO
