(7 Oct 1996) Spanish/Nat The Peruvian Ministry of Transportation released Sunday night the recording of the conversation between tower officials and the crew five minutes after takeoff. Peruvian authorities are still trying to figure out what caused the crash of Aeroperu flight 603 which killed all 70 people aboard. Meanwhile a group of American divers arrived in El Callao to help Peruvian authorities in the search of the plane's lost fuselage and the two black boxes. The funeral of Pedro Villenas - one of the victims of the Aeroperu Flight 603 crash - took place on Monday in Lima. The plane crashed into the ocean last Wednesday (2nd October), killing all 70 people aboard. So far 14 bodies have been recovered and identified. Villenas, former minister of education, was the latest body to be identified. The Peruvian Ministry of Transportation released Sunday night the recording of the conversation between tower officials and the crew five minutes after takeoff. The pilot made an emergency call to report problems with the navigational instruments. UPSOUND: --Tower: Aeroperu 603, tower, roger. (Aeroperu 603, torre prosiga) --Co-pilot: We have an emergency. Our basic instruments are down. We have no altitude or speed readings. We have an emergency. (Declaramos emergencia. No tenemos instrumentos basicos, ni altimetro, ni velocimetro. Declaramos emergencia.) --C: We have altitude problems. You will have to help us out with these readings. (Tenemos problemas aca de lectura de instrumentos. Nos va a tener que ayudar en altitud y velocidad) --C: I cut my thrusters, but it keeps revving up, revving up. (Communication is cut off) Ten minutes into the call the tower lost contact. A group of American divers is helping Peruvian authorities to search the plane's lost fuselage and the two black boxes. They arrived on Sunday and will work along Peruvian divers and rescuers. But authorities are losing hope of finding the remaining bodies due to harsh weather conditions and strong under currents that keep dragging clues and bodies away.
