This is a fully hosted powder hunter tour with flexible itinerary and a small group of 6 people. You’ll chase the snow and ride at different resorts each day. Your guide is one of the most experienced and qualified professionals working in Hokkaido who has many years of experience riding in these areas as well as reading the conditions and terrain. On this tour our groups stay in Otaru – a lively port town on the Sea of Japan. In winter, big storms roll in and blanket the streets in deep snow. Surrounding the town you’ll find a variety of resorts within driving distance. From world-class Kiroro to old-school local ski hills that are virtually empty mid-week. Surprisingly, this area doesn’t get the hordes of international guests chasing snow like in nearby Niseko and Rusutsu. The resorts surrounding Otaru don't have large ski-in/ski-out villages like it's neighbours, which largely keeps the crowds at bay. While the ski areas might take a little longer to get to, the bonus is that there's still plenty of opportunity to score waist deep turns without the crowds. Additional perks of staying in a city is there's local markets, fresh seafood, great onsen, interesting architecture with restored canals and warehouse buildings, snow lined streets, locals surfing during the depths of winter and a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Another bonus is that Otaru is probably the easiest destination to reach in Hokkaido. Just 30 minutes by train from Sapporo or 60 minutes by car from Niseko.
