We also examine the dorsal surface, which contributes to the floor of the fourth ventricle. We then move into the internal organization of the pons, discussing the separation into a ventral (basilar) portion and a dorsal (tegmental) portion. The ventral pons contains pontine nuclei that relay information from the motor cortex to the cerebellum via the middle cerebellar peduncles, while the dorsal pons houses sensory and motor cranial nerve nuclei, reticular formation components, and ascending/descending tracts. Functionally, the lecture covers the pons’ role in relaying motor commands, processing sensory input, and maintaining key autonomic functions.
