I apologize for the lower quality of this video which was captured from the balcony and a great distance from the performer as a home movie. However, the audience from the eastern Iowa region and Adam had a wonderful time with music that weekend. Additional Muscatine videos will follow as time permits. Sixteen-year-old Adam Swanson performs a relaxing waltz by the name of "Amoureuse" at the invitation of the Muscatine Arts Council of Muscatine, Iowa. This selection is a great contrast to other "barnburner" selections associated with the ragtime era. Adam greatly enjoys music performed by Andre Rieu with the Johann Strauss Orchestra. Adam was introduced to the "waltz" by ragtime aficionado Janice Cleary from Omaha, NE at a Andre Rieu performance. This waltz was a favorite of his mentor Johnny Maddox. Adam's performance was hosted by the First United Methodist Church of Muscatine, Iowa with a wonderful Steinway piano. Adam felt very fortunate to be recommended to the Arts Council by the international performing dynamic duet team "Ivory and Gold" which features Jeff and Ann Barnhart from Mystic, CT. Jeff and Ann were the headliners the weekend of these concerts. Other performances from Friday and Saturday night including piano duets with Adam Swanson and Jeff Barnhart may be found on YouTube. At the time of this performance, Adam was a high school junior in Shenandoah, Iowa and a 3-time Youth World Champion Old Time Pianist and current Adult World Champion Old Time Pianist. Jeff Barnhart and Bob Milne were the first musicians to ask Adam to perform on stage when Adam was 11 years old. By the time of this performance, Adam had studied piano with the professor of jazz at Michigan State University Rick Roe, Sarah Albright - wife of the late chairman of the Composition Department at the University of Michigan William Albright, classical pianist Walleed Howrani who was a graduate of The Moscow Conservatory and who had studied with classical pianist Emil Gilels, gold record pianist Johnny Maddox - whose classical piano teacher had studied with Franz List, Master Classes with Jeff Barnhart, and also benefited from the investment of many other generous mentors who shared their time and talents with him. Adam subsequently earned a bachelor degree in Piano Performance at Fort Lewis College having graduated with highest honors. There he studied with Dr. Lisa Campi-Walters who earned her doctorate from The Eastman School of Music. Dr. Campi-Walter's teacher was a student of Arthur Rubinstein. Adam then earned a Masters Degree in Musicology at the Peabody Conservatory - Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Adam has performed and lectured across the United States at such venues as Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, as well as other countries such as Hungary, Switzerland and Australia. He enjoys learning and sharing the history of music around the globe. As the Covid virus pandemic has resulted in the cancellation of his outside concert schedule, Adam performs weekly concerts on Facebook and YouTube on Sunday evenings at 6 PM Mountain time (8 PM Eastern time in the USA) from his home in Durango, Colorado and other local performances. He is eagerly awaiting the lifting of restrictions so he may resume performances across the country and around the world. Adam may be contacted through his website at http://www.adamgswanson.com/ to purchase CD's and schedule performances and lectures. While "Amoureuse" was composed by Rodolphe Berger who was born in Austria, Berger spent almost all of his professional life in France. 11-5-2020
