In our new Episode, Jonas talks to Andres Lehtmets, Senior InsurTech Expert at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). EIOPA represents the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority. It is an agency of the European Union and is based in Frankfurt am Main. EIOPA ensures the quality and stability of the financial system with a focus on customer needs, explains Andres. He describes the daily work at EIOPA as follows: "A lot of time is spent in workshops. The focus is on new technologies and business models that are entering the market - "market monitoring", as Andres puts it. In the end, the question is always: What measures - "supervisory approaches" - should be taken? Current topics include artificial intelligence, open finance, open insurance and blockchain. Asked about Open Insurance, Andres explains that the topic is not new. Data in insurers is old hat. What is new, however, is the amount of data and today's computing power to make it usable. Open Insurance definitely brings benefits: higher efficiency, more transparency and improved product development. Together with the potential risks for consumers, a balanced view of the whole issue needs to be taken.
