In the dark, fighting through solid scrub oak, holding a dog above my head, too thick for a flashlight to work, cut and bleeding a bit. This peak was the hardest hour of peakbagging ever, all the way up to the year 2025. Beautiful Virsylvia Peak, elevation 12,594 feet is located in northern New Mexico in the Latir Wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo Range within the Carson National Forest. This is a gorgeous area to hike especially this time of year with the aspen turning golden. I am hiking the highest 184 peaks in New Mexico, now 199. The number 49 represents the order that I hiked it.
