Project Corollen, is a long overdue project of mine. I got my 1981 Corolla coupe back in 2006, and daily drove it for a number of years, till life happened, and it has sat in my garage for approximately 10 years. With the limited time I have (family man and all), working on my car, seems to have always fallen by the waste side, up until recently. I have decided that I would work on my car one hour a day. That will yield 5 hours of work on the car per week, without even touching the highly valued family time weekends. This video records the beginning of my affectionally named Corollen Project. The donor car is a running 1991 Lexus LS400. The auto transmission was blow, but short of the bellhousing, I don't need it. On this video, I removed the 1UZFE from the LS400, and try to document everything I did in doing so. Now, I have changed my mind as to what the drivetrain will be, a number of times, which has yielded a bunch of good and some rear part during that time. For some time now, I have settled on a 1UZFE swap, with a W58 transmission. The car will also need some body work (usual rust issues which plague Japanese cars of this age), and I am by no means a body man, or even a mechanic. I am just a handy car guy, with some experience in working on my own cars. My plan is to do as much of the restoration and performance upgrades myself. Now, why a 1UZFE swap? Though, the stock 3TC engine is near and dear to my heart, (this is the 8th 78 to 82 Corolla I've owned), and knowing the potential of a built 3TC; my goal with this car is pretty specific. I want a really reliably triple the stock 70HP of the 3TC. The 1UZFE is the million mile engine, and with it's 250+ horses and torque, it can easily make my Corolla a super fun reliable little rocket. At this point my plans are to keep it NA, so as to avoid any additional tuning that force induction may require. If you enjoy this video, please like, share, and consider subscribing. Thank You.
