The Syrian army has gained control of the town of Shaba'a on the suburbs of the capital, Damascus, as it continues its fight against the Free Syrian Army after heavy firefights. Since last week, the soldiers have gained control of the Barzeh district near the capital and the Christian town of Ma'lula. A British defense study shows that about 100,000 foreign-backed militants, fragmented into 1,000 groups, are fighting in Syria against the government and people.
