SOUNDBITE (English) Andrew Dalton, The Associated Press: "Actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner have been found dead in their Los Angeles home from apparent stab wounds, and their 32 year old son, Nick Reiner has been arrested on suspicion of killing both of them. Nick Reiner has yet to be charged with any crime. The LA County District Attorney's Office will make that determination in the next couple of days; and if he is charged, he'll make his initial court appearance then. Reiner came to fame in the 1970s on the show 'All in the Family', where he won a couple of Emmys, and then in the 1980s and 19990s, he became one of the biggest directors in Hollywood with movies including 'The Princess Bride', 'Stand By Me', 'A Few Good Men', and 'When Harry Met Sally'. He's also a major Democratic activist, and people from that arena have been singing his praises, including LA Mayor Karen Bass, former President Barack Obama, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Nick and Rob Reiner did make a film together about 10 years ago with Nick as a co-writer and Rob as director, and it works through some of the issues that they've had together. It wasn't strictly speaking an autobiography, but it did deal with fathers and sons and difficult relationships and addiction and some of the things they've gone through. And at the time, about 10 years ago, it seemed that, you know, their relationship was in a good place. Nick Reiner has led a very private life since then, and it's not clear what has happened with him since. But obviously it got to a very difficult and strained place recently. It was not immediately clear what charges Nick Reiner, 32, would face. Online records show he remained in jail on Monday. Police Chief Jim McDonnell said he is being held on $4 million bail. Representatives for the Reiner family did not immediately respond to a request for comment and it wasn’t immediately clear if Nick Reiner had an attorney who could speak on his behalf. Nick Reiner has spoken publicly of his struggles with addiction. By 18, he had cycled in and out of treatment facilities with bouts of homelessness and relapses in between. Rob and Nick Reiner explored their difficult relationship and Nick Reiner’s struggles with drugs in a semi-autobiographical 2016 film, “Being Charlie.” Rob and Michele Singer Reiner were found dead Sunday at their home in Los Angeles, and investigators believe they suffered stab wounds, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The official, who was briefed on the investigation, confirmed that Nick Reiner was being held but could not publicly discuss the details and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity. Relatives of Lear, the legendary producer who died in 2023, said their deaths left them bereft.
