When Bandstand started airing on ABC in 1957, it was a weekday, 90 minute show. It was cut to an hour in 1961 and then to only a half-hour in 1962. Finally, on Sept. 7, 1963, the show was lengthened back to an hour but aired only once a week, on Saturday, where it would remain for the remainder of its run. This episode is the only half hour, weekday version of American Bandstand that is known to exist. Unfortunately, the Top 10 was edited out and I don’t think the half-hour show had a Record Review (?) As Dick mentions, Nancy Sinatra guest starred on “The Virginian” last month on the Feb. 13th episode “If You Have Tears”. This would be her acting debut. Her song today, “Like I Do” didn’t chart in the US, but went to #2 in Italy. Her breakthrough hit “These Boots Were Made For Walkin’” will be released in late ’65 and hit #1 in ’66. Tommy Sands (who Dick mentions here) is Nancy’s husband. They will divorce in 1965. “Follow The Boys”, Connie Francis’ follow up to her 1960 film “Where the Boys Are”, was released 2 weeks ago. It would be a modest success at the box office despite “raving critics and roaring crowds”. Did anyone have “Twist Parties”? Did you serve Appian Way Pizza? Did you chew Dentyne afterwards? On the Billboard Hot 100 This Week: 1. Walk Like A Man – The Four Seasons 2. Ruby Baby – Dion 3. Hey Paula – Paul & Paula 4. Rhythm of the Rain – The Cascades 5. Walk Right In – The Rooftop Singers 23. Up On The Roof – The Drifters 35. South Street – The Orlons 42. Why Do Lovers Break Each Other’s Hearts – Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans 80. Follow The Boys – Connie Francis I hope you all have a ”paradise that’s trouble proof” when this old world starts getting you down. This is definitely part of my “roof”. Stay safe everyone!
