This half-hour Public Health Law Center webinar provides an overview of California’s new amendment to its cannabis law, A.B. 1775, which took effect January 1, 2025. Previously, the state allowed local jurisdictions to pass ordinances that permit cannabis consumption lounges. The public use of cannabis in these lounges has always been a public health concern, particularly given California’s strong smoke-free air laws. For those jurisdictions that do allow cannabis lounges, A.B. 1775 now permits the preparation of food on site, as well as the hosting of live performances. These changes to California law have the potential to harm individuals and employees further by subjecting them to secondhand smoke. In this webinar, staff attorney Luke Haqq delves into specific provisions of A.B. 1775 and their implications and suggests what localities can do in response. Presenter: Luke Haqq - Public Health Law Center Moderator: Natalie Hemmerich - Public Health Law Center
