The NEW MG Cyberster is the most exciting MG in decades. It's a fully electric convertible sports roadster that's sublimely stylish, sumptuously comfortable with some serious street cred performance. The two-model UK range keeps it simple. Both models use a 77kW battery with a 7kW onboard charger. Maximum charging capability is 144kW, good enough for a 10 to 80 per cent charge in 38 minutes on a fast charger, or 10.5 hours on a home 7kW wall box. The rear-wheel-drive Trophy costs £54,995 and is powered by a 335bhp equivalent electric motor driving the rear wheels. Performance is reasonable with 5.0 seconds to 62mph and a 121mph top speed. It weighs 1885kg and has a range of 316 miles. However, you will only need another £5000 to get into to the all-wheel-drive £59,995 GT, the most powerful production MG the brand have ever made. This modestly priced step-up gives you an extra 161bhp from a second motor driving the front axle and a massive hike in performance over the Trophy. Power and torque rocket to 496bhp with the 0-62mph sprint dropping to an eye watering 3.2sec, and top speed of 125mph. Just to give you an idea, that 3.2 second blast to 62mph matches that of the McLaren F1 that's insane! Downsides, cost aside, the kerb weight shoots up by a massive 100kg to 1985kg and due to the extra weight the WLTP range drops to 276 miles. There are plenty of digital gimmicks, shed loads of technology, with plenty of knick-knacks and some really nice ergonomic quirks, but the engineering fundamental of the MG Cyberster is mighty impressive. The Cyberster offers a GT driving experience that is unlike anything else currently available, and I think will do for some time to come.
