Grease and flour a cake pan. In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Fold in the mashed bananas until well combined.
