Normally we would just moor up when the weather gets bad. When you have booked a scheduled passage with CRT you have no option but to go with whatever weather is thrown at you and yes it threw it down, getting progressively worse as we crossed the River Ribble. The scenery is flat as the River Douglas cuts its way through open marsh land until it joins the River Ribble. We were warned not to cut in front of Astland Lamp as we turned right onto the river otherwise we kept fairly close to the centre of the channel to avoid shallow water. This is particularly important on very high tides when the low lying banks may become covered.
