Hey guys! I've been neglecting my own channel for a bit trying to assist with my main writing channel over at Guns & Tactics, and I'll do my best to get some more video content up for you. I've been delving back into bettering my meager skillset and doing more video coverage of trainings and events I've been fortunate enough to attend throughout the years. This is a short clip of a recent "Alphabet Soup" drill from Centrifuge Training's Vehicle Close Quarter Battle (VCQB) Instructor Course I recently attended in Deer Island, OR. I cert'ed under William Petty back in 2016, but wanted to get to another course as his material has been enhanced as data and lesson plan enhancement has developed over the past 2 years. Alphabet soup is a drill intended to simulate an officer ambush while an officer is seated in his/her vehicle, with or without a patrol partner. New data shows that 37% of officers killed in ambushes while not dispatched to a call for service occur with officers simply sitting in their vehicle...perhaps we should collectively train towards that probability. This drill simulates a random attack from a random position, and the moving suspect is denoted by multiple target callouts. The officers here have to combine a comprehensive amount of skillsets all in one drill: target orientation and acquisition, getting your hits, tracking a moving target around the vehicle, earning your shot, and maintaining weapon control in order to not flag or muzzle your partner. There are a lot of moving parts, and this portion is a culmination of those skills involving 2 weapon platforms, a partner, and successfully clearing malfunctions at the appropriate time of engagement. In some cases, and this has been tested and backed up with force of force drills and objective testing, engaging a target while in the vehicle is more efficient, and an option worth considering when driving away, driving over a suspect, or simply getting off the X is not the most feasible option.
