A shocking CBS News Chicago investigation exposed a disturbing truth: licensed Black gun owners — citizens who followed every single step of Illinois law — are being arrested, booked, and charged with felonies for exercising their constitutional right to self-defense. One of them is Louis McWilliams, a small business owner from Tinley Park who runs a local cheesecake company. Louis holds a valid FOID card and Concealed Carry License (CCL). He took the training, passed every background check, and did everything right — yet was arrested by the Chicago Police Department and treated like a criminal. His only “crime” was legally carrying a firearm for protection, something guaranteed to him under both the U.S. Constitution and the Illinois Constitution. This is not justice. This is a civil rights violation — and it’s happening under Democrat leadership in Chicago. When lawful citizens are arrested while violent criminals walk free, it exposes a dangerous double standard. The ISRA is demanding a full investigation into the actions of both the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Those responsible for these unconstitutional arrests must be held accountable. We are also calling on anyone who has been wrongfully arrested or prosecuted while lawfully exercising their gun rights to come forward.
