It is the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) and takes place five years after the previous game. The story follows Jedi Knight Cal Kestis as he continues resisting the Galactic Empire while searching for a hidden planet that could serve as a safe haven for those oppressed by Imperial rule. Like its predecessor, the game combines lightsaber combat, Force abilities, exploration, platforming, and puzzle solving with a structure inspired by Metroidvania games. Development began in late 2019, with Stig Asmussen returning as director. The team aimed to expand the scale of the first game by refining its mechanics and adding new features such as AI companions. The narrative was created in collaboration with Lucasfilm and has a darker tone, focusing on Cal’s struggle against the overwhelming power of the Empire. The game was announced in May 2022 and released on April 28, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were released on September 17, 2024. A sequel concluding Cal’s story is currently in development. The game is played from a third-person perspective. Cal fights enemies using his lightsaber and various Force powers. Both Cal and enemies have health and block meters, and players must parry, dodge, and counter attacks strategically. Some enemies perform unblockable attacks that must be avoided. The game features five lightsaber stances—single, double-bladed, dual-wield, crossguard, and blaster—each suited for different combat situations, though players can equip only two at a time. Multiple difficulty settings allow players to adjust the challenge. Cal can use Force abilities such as pushing and pulling enemies, slowing time, lifting foes, and manipulating them to attack their allies. Side activities include optional quests, collectibles, and puzzle-based Jedi meditation chambers that reward players with perks, skill points, or upgrades. Some characters can be recruited to Pyloon’s Saloon, unlocking additional activities such as bounty hunting missions and mini-games. The story begins with Cal working with rebel leader Saw Gerrera against the Empire. After stealing Imperial data on Coruscant, Cal learns the Empire continues to expand despite his efforts. While repairing his ship on Koboh, he discovers clues about the hidden planet Tanalorr, located beyond the dangerous Koboh Abyss. Cal and his allies search for ancient compasses needed to reach Tanalorr, hoping to turn it into a refuge for people hunted by the Empire. They are opposed by Dagan Gera, a fallen High Republic Jedi, and the Bedlam Raiders. During the journey, Cal reunites with old allies and begins a relationship with Merrin. After defeating Dagan, Cal retrieves a compass, but his ally Bode Akuna betrays the group, revealing himself as an Imperial spy and fallen Jedi. The Empire attacks the Jedi archives on Jedha, resulting in the deaths of Cere Junda and Eno Cordova while Darth Vader destroys the archives. Cal pursues Bode and briefly struggles with the dark side before regaining control. The final confrontation occurs on Tanalorr, where Bode refuses to surrender. Realizing his former friend cannot be redeemed, Cal kills him. After mourning their fallen allies, Cal, Merrin, and Greez decide to protect Tanalorr and plan to use it as a refuge for members of the Hidden Path.
