The driver behind the blacked-out windows had only one goal: to distribute aid to the suffering civilian population. Helge Meyer is a former Danish Special Forces officer who, during the Bosnian War in the 1990s, convinced his American contacts that he could use his modified 1979 Camaro to distribute aid better than the regular army with its large convoys. The American comrades were so enthusiastic about the idea that they kept modifying his vehicle at their own expense. It was equipped with, among other things, infrared absorbing camouflage paint, night vision, infra-red laser light, thermal imaging, GPS, multiple body armor, tomahawk and close combat knife. The tires were filled with tire sealant and a gas nitro system could double the power of the 5.7-liter engine to 440hp for 36 seconds. To avoid attracting attention at night, the instrument lighting was dimmed to a minimum and both side windows were completely blacked out, Meyer could only see out the front. Luxury equipment such as the heater was also removed to make more room for equipment and supplies. Helge Meyer joined the Danish Army at the age of 16 and was a trained soldier in the Jaegerkorpset, Frømandskorpset (combat swimmer), American Green Beret and even completed the German Airborne training. Due to the high mobility and his special appearance, Meyer was indeed able to carry out an enormous amount of aid deliveries for the suffering population and soon became a legend among all parties of the conflict. During his frontline missions with the Camaro, however, Meyer never carried firearms, "My only weapon was the Bible."
