Off the coast of Canada, I explored Saint-Pierre, Miquelon, and Île-aux-Marins. A French enclave frozen in time, between Atlantic mists, colorful houses, maritime heritage, and a unique island atmosphere. An extraordinary journey to the far reaches of the North American continent. ---------------------- 🔔 Subscribe to my YouTube channel: / @voyagezavecgilles --------------------- ⏱️ Find your way around the video: 00:00 Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. 00:25 The City of Saint-Pierre. 00:49 The Heritage Museum of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. 01:29 Île aux Marins across from Saint-Pierre. 02:07 Fisherman's house on Île aux Marins. 02:56 Its church. 03:25 Former school turned museum. 04:06 The island of Miquelon-Langlade. 04:33 Seal watching. 04:46 Quick visit to a goat farm. 04:57 Visit to the village of Miquelon. -------------------------- 🎥 More videos in your language: ▶️ • Newfoundland: Viking remains and colorful ... ▶️ • Greenland: Kujalleq Glacier and Qaqortoq, ... ----------------------- I set foot in Saint-Pierre as if I had arrived in a world apart. Here, everything is French: the streets, the signs, the cars, the accents... and yet, I am off the coast of Canada, in the North Atlantic. The main island, Saint-Pierre, is the most populated in the archipelago. I strolled through the streets lined with colorful houses, with the constant feeling of being at the end of the world, while remaining in a small corner of France. From the port, I set sail for Île-aux-Marins. It's only a few minutes away by boat, but the atmosphere there is even more timeless. There are no longer any permanent inhabitants, only empty houses, a marine cemetery, a church facing the sea, and the vestiges of a bygone era. The museum, housed in the old school, tells the story of the harsh life of yesteryear, when fishermen braved storms and ice. Then I continued my journey to the island of Miquelon-Langlade. Less populated than Saint-Pierre, the island is wilder and more sprawling. The village of Miquelon, to the north, sits on the ocean's edge, in a calm, almost isolated bay. I found a peaceful atmosphere there, with a wooden church, a few shops, and a feeling of total remoteness. Nearby, the Dune sandbar connects Miquelon to Langlade, forming a windswept isthmus frequented by wild horses and seals. The landscapes of Miquelon surprised me with their diversity: forests, moors, cliffs, deserted beaches... Here, nature reigns supreme. The wind, the light, the silence. The history of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is that of an archipelago long disputed between European powers, which became a refuge for smugglers during Prohibition, and then remained a French territory at the gateway to Newfoundland. This special connection with mainland France, despite the distance, forges its unique character. It is a land of memory, fishing, and exile. You can feel the Basque, Breton, and Norman influences, eat French bread, speak with the island accent, and live to the rhythm of the wind and the sea. #SaintPierreAndMiquelon #IleAuxMarins #Miquelon #FrenchArchipelago #TravelCanada #ColorfulHouses #MaritimeHeritage #OverseasTerritories #CoastalVillage #IslandTourism #FrenchHistory #AtlanticDiscovery #WildNature #Seals #WildHorses #SandTongue #Archipelago #Seascapes #FrenchIslands #IslandCulture
