According to my track record and the BR rating, though, apparently I was a subpar battler when I began this session...but I'm sure there's got to be something we can do about that, right? --- 24 May 2011 Luigi Standard Bike M I'm never really sure which of the two vehicles to use for Battle, but I mean, it matters far less than it would in a race, right? I think I err slightly in favor of choosing the bike, probably under the illusion that I'll pose a smaller target or something, but I can't actually see as to how it'll be all that different. Just for that, next time I'm going to use the Standard Kart, because I can, just to prove that it's a silly thing to be biased at all over, eh? --- Balloon Battle #1 -- SNES Battle Course 4 I notice that this is one particular course over which the Overhazard and I have a bit of a philosophical divergence if ideas over...although in truth it's not really as dramatic as that sounds. Suffice to say that I actually like this course, even if I recognize that it's entirely different from the general mold of battle courses. Anyway, the "problem" with Battle for me, I think is a really crazy element of lacking direction and ease of distraction coupled with a really bad sense of distance and direction with moving objects...so what I mean is that if you let me loose in a wide open area, I'll be entirely aimless and at the mercy of all the shiny objects that come within my radius of apparent interest. Then I will chase down said shiny and either successfully achieve whatever purpose I had in seeking it, be that the collection, destruction, or mere following of my quarry...or else it'll be collected, destroyed, or otherwise somehow evade my pursuit before I can reach it...at which point the whole thing repeats itself. The real problem with this is that such a passive and unfocused approach to search and destroy is really unproductive, not to mention that there are other objects out there seeking to destroy me, and until I'm destroyed I will probably remain entirely ignorant of the existence of an outside threat. Thus, as with my Battle performance, I finally meander about and arrive at what I believe to be the point: that there's a paradigm shift here which actually seems to force me into a more productive mode of operation...the whole field is divided into "lanes," so I can only go forwards, backwards, or change "lanes" at an intersection. I will agree that this place makes for low-scoring matches, but I can't agree that "nothing" happens...actual nothing is only a danger if you've got a severe shortage of players, which this match does not...and incidentally it makes the original game of its debut the absolute worst possible setting under which to play it. --- Coin Runners #1 -- GBA Battle Course 3 So my...uh...differently-abled mental state for Battle Mode is subpar when it comes to hunting people down and destroying them. However, "chasing the shiny" IS a useful asset for Coin Runners, because that's what it's supposed to be about, right? On the other hand, it still means that I'm not going to hunt down and destroy anybody and steal their valuables any time soon, which would be the other major factor in these battles. Oh, and even if I do manage to make somebody cough up their loot, I'll still have the awful limited-scope view on how I should go harvesting the plunder up for grabs as others wander in to grab what they can. Really, it kinda "works" in my mind, but it depends a lot on how available a piece of prey I prove to be, so obviously there's no satisfaction guarantee. --- Balloon Battle #2 -- DS Twilight House I would call your attention to the player "☆ηɩπɩ☆"...I'm not sure what to make of what occurs just past the 8:00 mark...we see in this one exchange a firing off of a green shell followed immediately with an explosion centered around ☆ηɩπɩ☆ as I drew near and then yet another before I even landed. You'd at least see the Bob-omb before it blew for a brief instance, but I can spot absolutely zero frames with our explosive little buddy. I'd have suspected a weird glitch or bit of timely lag if at least it had been possible for this mystery explosion to have taken place, but even my naive and trusting nature is forced to concede the possibility of the worst case scenario for lack of any other apparent alternatives. Other than that, I really didn't manage to do...well, anything, so it's really the only interesting moment in the whole match, wouldn't you say? --- Coin Runners #2 -- SNES Battle Course 4 And, of course, this match just kinda sums up all the parts of what I've been saying, as all the pieces fall into place with predictable results according to my analysis of how I seem to work in this mode of Battle.
