Novelist and child psychologist Jonathan Kellerman speaks about his writing career and his new nonfiction book, Savage Spawn: Reflections on Violent Children (1999). Kellerman reflects on how he became interested in psychology and his early career working with cancer patients at a children’s hospital. He also shares his history as a writer, from getting his first agent as a student in 1971 to finally publishing his first novel in 1985. Kellerman also comments on his experience balancing his psychological practice and career as a novelist and explains the catalyst and research for Savage Spawn, his first non-fiction book in twenty years. The lecture is followed with questions from the audience. Recorded January 11, 2000, at the 92nd Street Y, New York. Your support helps us continue creating online content for our community.
