Pico Viejo (literally “Old Peak”) is actually slightly younger than its famous neighbor Pico del Teide, but it offers a more peaceful and raw volcanic experience. Rising to 3,134 meters, it is the second-highest peak in Tenerife and all the Canary Islands. In this video, we take you on a snowy ascent that starts from the iconic Roques de García and leads up through lava fields, surreal high-altitude terrain, and patches of snow and ice covering the volcanic landscape. The ascent took around 5 hours, with a faster descent thanks to the good visibility and compact snow.
