Join me in Episode 2 of my epic motorcycle adventure across Portugal as I ride deep into the heart of the Serra da Estrela mountains—Portugal’s highest and most dramatic mountain range. From misty mountain roads and rain-soaked hairpin bends to sweeping alpine vistas and cobbled village streets, this episode is packed with the unpredictable highs and lows that make motorcycle travel so addictive. After leaving Covilhã, I navigate my way through the mountainous terrain, accidentally taking a wrong turn into a sleepy Portuguese village. But as any seasoned motorcyclist knows, sometimes the wrong road leads to the right kind of adventure. Rejoining the iconic N232, I ride through thick forest, open mountain plateaus, and past towering dam walls, chasing fleeting sunshine and dodging bursts of heavy rain. My goal? To reach Torre, the highest point in mainland Portugal at 1,993 meters—if the snow doesn’t stop me first. As the elevation increases, so does the challenge. I battle changing weather conditions, including dense fog and sudden downpours, all while testing the limits of my waterproof gear and my own determination. The ride becomes a dance with nature, where every corner and cloud brings something new. Along the way, I stop at scenic viewpoints, try to warm up with a coffee (spoiler: not every café takes cards!), and reflect on how riding a motorcycle connects us to the weather, the road, and the moment like nothing else.
