(3 Jul 1995) T/I 10:15:23 CHRISTO COMPLETES WRAPPING OF THE REICHSTAG Berlin, Germany Natsot Duration: 2:21" Bulgarian artist Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude have wrapped Germany's Reichstag building in thousands of metres of silver fabric. The former and future parliament building was draped with 100,000 square metres of silver fabric, secured with almost 16,000 metres of blue rope. The giant cover is being supported by a steel truss and anchored to the ground by steel weights. Strong winds and rain delayed the "artwork" on the 101 year old Berlin Building, a symbol of Germany's troubled 20th century, for more than a week. The wrapping took more than a week to complete. There were 210 workers including professional climbers. The artists paid for the project out of their own pockets. It cost 11 million dollars. Christo hopes to regain some of the money through the sale of prints and memorabilia. SHOWS: (BERLIN, GERMANY, 24/6) WS of Reichstag all wrapped up. MS of wrapped Reichstag with German flag flying.
