As I am Mandala stage crew, by Sunday at Glastonbury I’ve been on site over a week working round the clock on setup, live sound and stage management. Sleep is a rare commodity. The days are spent in a continuous wave of physical work, problem solving attending to tasks and navigating the incredible, lively, inspiring, beautiful, messy, chaotic and sometimes very challenging world of people that make the whole thing work. The gigs get squeezed in here and there in a blur. It takes a bit of experience to make it all work and when it’s all going well, the time spent casts sunlight, colours and dreams which last a lifetime. This Sunday was one of those very special days. My first time to play hurdy gurdy at Glastonbury. Special thanks to Permaculture for having me, Dickon for all the help and friendship, the Nerdy Gurdy team for helping bring hurdy gurdies to Glastonbury and to Mary Vanhoozer for sharing her wonderful arrangements, some of which are adopted here.
