Built on the hill beside Glasgow Cathedral, the Necropolis quickly filled with elaborate monuments, mausoleums, and statues—over 50,000 people are buried there, though only a fraction have marked graves. The most prominent feature is the towering monument to John Knox, erected in 1825 before the cemetery officially opened. Today, the Necropolis is both a historical landmark and a peaceful place to wander, offering sweeping views over the city and a glimpse into Glasgow’s Victorian past.
