DEALING WITH ANXIETY WITH MINDFULNESS PRACTICE All anxiety is anticipatory, its future oriented, leading the mind into the "thought stream" or mental proliferation. What makes us anxious is the thought stream (mental proliferation) coming up with some imagined future, and we become fearful of uncertainties of the future. Mindfulness practice trains the mind to come back into the present, moment to moment, stepping out of the thought stream thus ending mental proliferation. Learn to stay with the experience, rather than struggling to get rid of it, fight it, or try to escape it (the "Fight, or Flight reaction"). Learn to stay with the experience, and instead of thinking "how to I get the anxiety to stop", see the goal of the practice is "how do I increase my capacity to be with it".
