General Electric VR 22 Phono Cartridge Series

1959. General Electric's second generation of stereo cartridges. A variable reluctance design originally used in their mono RPX cartidged in 1950. The VR-22 succeeds GE's Golden Classic stereo cartridge (1958). The VR-22 series is much improved in audio quality. There are 2 models in the series: The VR225 for transcription turntables and the VR227 for record changers. Advertised as being triple shielded against audio interference, the 2 cartridges have an audio hum during playback. Although one of the largest companies in the U.S, GE could not compete with the other phono cartridge companies and ended its cartridge division in the early 1960s.
