A day walk of 11 miles from East Leake via West Leake and Gotham. Having parked up in East Leake I heade through some old pastures that were busy with locals enjoying the rather warm and sticky afternoon and head up on to Crow Hill. to the NW of East Leake; snagging myself against the blackberry bushes as I climbed the low hill. It was at the point I headed across the fields up to Fox Hill and eventually to the outskirts of West Leake. Passing a field of sunflowers and a view of the Ratcliffe on Soar Powerstation chuffing its steam clouds. Heading through the fields along the footpath I eventually arrived at the turn that lead me up through the West Leake Hills and on to the lovel spot that is Court Hill with its vista of the Trent Valley and Notting ham in the distance; taking a decent break on the bench sited there I contemplated previous walks in this area. Turning along the ridge I headed over towards Cottagers Hill and Gotham and was rewarded wit hthe view backto Court Hill and East Leake; at this point it was getting pretty muggy and being 23C I was lookin gforward to finding some cool refreshment down in Gotham. Once in Gotham I took a much needed break in the Cuckoo Bush and rewarded myself with an excellent pint and some crisps whislt listening to the locals chatting amongst themselves. Once departed I headed once again in to the fields and followed a disuesed railway line for a while this was wooded with an easy path and was welcome respite. Heading back under the railway line and following the perimeters of the fields and part of the Midshires Way I eventually arrived back in East Leake. A satisfying walk where I found although tired due to recent inactivity my feet bore up surprisingly well. The combination of my Karrimor Trail runners and non-merino hiking socks may have been a factor. For anyone interested a route of my walk can be found here... https://explore.osmaps.com/route/1380...
