Cataract surgery with I-CARE phakic IOL removal and Alcon Vivity® implantation

Phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation is a suitable method to correct ametropia, especially high myopia. PIOLs are available in different shapes, designs, and materials. They also have different efficacy and safety profiles. I-CARE phakic IOL by Cornéal is a one-piece foldable hydrophilic lens made of acrylic. It has a footplate haptic design. Short-term studies were promising as they proved the efficacy of the lens. However, Long-term studies revealed that the lens is associated with endothelial cell loss and other adverse effects. Alcon Vivity® IOL utilizes non-diffractive wavefront-shaping elements located on the anterior surface of the IOL to create advanced and delayed wavefronts resulting in a continuous extended focal range instead of multiple focal points. Case description: A 60-year-old patient came to our clinics with blurred vision. The patient underwent bilateral I-CARE lens implantation 14 years ago. The endothelial cell count was around 1000 cells/mm2 in each eye. The visual acuity was 0.32 in the right eye and 0.5 in the left eye.
