The Reason By Robert Finch I never saw the blossoms in my youth. Surely like this, the cherry dressed in snow And apple-trees wore pink and white as now And peaches by their blushes told the truth, The pear composed duets of white and yellow, The judas tree an amethyst reminder, Forsythia a blaze of bright rejoinder, Magnolia a dazzling captive billow.... I see the blossoms now that lit my past Still tell the blue their comets will outlast The fitful lanterns lit by fickle men. Today I find the treasure of lost years, But how so late and why these inner tears? Because you had no eye for blossoms then. #poetry #poem #contemplation #sad #canadian #literature
