Dudley's Portosystemic Shunt

Back in 2014, our mascot Dudley was diagnosed with a portosystemic shunt at 12 weeks of age - this causes blood to bypass his liver. Conventional surgery wasn’t an option as the shunt was so large, but fortunately for Dudley, the 'Coiling' procedure had arrived in the UK. Back then Dudley was only the 6th dog in the UK to have this innovative new surgery – and he had it twice that year! This video shows the coiling procedure in 2014; Since August of this year Dudley has had two separate seizures and will be undergoing ‘Coiling’ again today to redirect blood away from his portosystemic shunt. There are very few dogs in the UK to have this procedure done 3 times in such a short time span, so we’ll be keeping you up to date on his progress.
